I just received word that Peter Laird has inked a drawing, for a bookplate to be included with the upcoming TMNT Collected Book Volume 1, which he plans on toning (ala the original TMNT issues). According to Dan Berger over at Mirage, “It’ll be killer when it’s completed.”
I’ll have more news posted ad I get it. Meanwhile, shop the TMNT and/or Exclusives sections to pre order a copy today.
I’ve just placed an auction up on ebay for the original artwork to the Gene Colan Doctor Strange/Dracula bookplate. Go HERE and maybe you could be the proud owner of a very unique item from one of the all-time greats of comic art! And for those of you interested in another way to get your hands on this beautiful image, I’m now going to be offering the remaining signed bookplates I have in stock, free with the purchase of a TOMB OF DRACULA OMNIBUS EDITION from Marvel Comics. Go to the EXCLUSIVES section of the site for ordering details.
As the world of pop-culture counts down the days to the release of the WATCHMEN movie next year, some are finding more interesting ways than others to fill that time. I was recently turned on to a new series of podcasts, currently being posted at a site called HALF HOUR WASTED. These podcasts, presented by a group called THE LEGION OF DUDES, examines the 12 issue series issue by issue, page by page. So far two episodes have been completed (for WATCHMEN issues 1 & 2), with more are on the way! Check them out HERE. And while your at it, click over to Panel to Panel’s selection of WATCHMEN publications HERE.
Here we have a beautiful Sandman sketch by Michael Zulli. Zulli whipped this one up somewhere around ’94 or ’95, and I truly mean “whipped”! This sketch was produced in an amazing 5 or 10 minutes with nothing more than a sharpie and some white-out; and he did pieces like this all day long, one after another for a line of fans! In my opinion, his “sketches” are more impressive than most comic artist’s “finished product”. But that’s my opinion…
Zulli’s fantastic run on the final issues of THE SANDMAN are going to be re-released in November in THE ABSOLUTE SANDMAN VOLUME 4, which can be pre-ordered HERE. And don’t forget another of Zulli’s collaborations with Neil Gaiman, THE FACTS IN THE CASE OF THE DEPARTURE OF MISS FINCH with an exclusive Panel to Panel bookplate, signed by Zulli.
On your left is a sketch that Rick Veitch had done for me back in the Comics Route days, circa 1993/94. Maximortal was Rick’s current project at the time, and a huge seller for Comics Route. Rick hadn’t done any signings or events with me at that point, but would every once and a while wander down into Manchester from his home high in the mountains of West Townshend, VT and do a little comics shopping. One day, I’d managed to talk him into doing this reworking of the Maximortal image with the addition of Swamp Thing. More Veitch images to come in the future…
Starting today I’m going to be posting some artwork and images from Panel to Panel “archives”. These will be images dating back to around 1990 to 2000, images that represent P2P’s long relationship with the comics industry. Some will be from my private collection, some will be from the Comics Route days, but all will be images that most of you have never seen before (or in a very long time).
We start with an image by Stephen R. Bissette from 1992. This was the image to advertise the first signing Steve had done with Comics Route in Manchester, VT; and what would prove to be the beginning of a long and wonderful relationship. Steve went on to be part of many more signings with Comics Route, and eventually be one of the biggest supporters of Panel to Panel. Catch up with all things “Bissette” at www.srbissette.com, and keep an eye on this blog for more Bissette artwork and news of his upcoming projects.
Are you a facebook user? Well if so, show your support for Panel to Panel.Net and “become a fan”!! That’s right, P2P is now on facebook and we’d love to hear from you. Search out Panel to Panel.Net on www.facebook.com (making stalking fun!).
Congratulations to Laura M. from Sherman Oaks, CA; she is the big winner, and will receive a piece of original artwork by Jaime Hernandez, in the Panel to Panel-Jaime Hernandez original art/bookplate drawing!! And also a congratulations goes out to Sean F. from White River Junction, VT. Sean was the second prize winner, and will be receiving a set of Love & Rockets Volume 2 #’s 1-20 (donated by the kind folks at Fantagraphics). Both of these customers were among the many who purchased the latest L&R collection, THE EDUCATION OF HOPEY GLASS (which included an exclusive signed Jaime Hernandez bookplate), and by doing so were entered in the drawing to win the fabulous prizes mentioned above.
This was the first contest run on Panel to Panel, and I think it won’t be the last…
Unfortunately, if you didn’t get a copy of THE EDUCATION OF HOPEY GLASS w/the bookplate before, you won’t be able to get one now, the book is currently out of print. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still get a signed Jaime bookplate. While supplies last, I’m going to offer the bookplate with any of the in-print Jaime Hernandez/Love & Rockets collections (view them all HERE). And later this week, I’ll be posting a listing to pre-order the all-new LOVE & ROCKETS VOLUME 3 #1, and this too will include the signed bookplate. So there will be lots of opportunities to get a very cool signed exclusive. Stay tuned…
